Colt M16 Airsoft

Coming from a difficult development, it is the military version of the AR-15 Armalite rifle completed by 1958. The reliability and accuracy of the first version were insufficient and Armalite sold the patents to the firm's weapon Colt received an order for 8000 to deliver weapons to the forces of the Strategic Air Command in 1960. The research services of the U.S. Army in 1000 bought more in 1962 and distributed for testing to South Vietnamese forces. The experiment was some enthusiastic reports in 1963 that resulted in the order of 85 000 units to equip the Army under the designation XM16E1 and 19,000 additional weapons for the Air Force under the designation M16. The M16 was officially adopted by the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and in 1967 by the Army. Colt received an order for 850,000 units in 1966. The real innovation is that it has made use of a small-caliber ammunition on an idea of the research services of the U.S. Army. Armalite developed a powerful .22 caliber ammunition, or 5.6 mm. Derived from the cartridge hunting .222 Remington and .222 Remington Magnum, .222 Remington, she was appointed Special and .223 Remington or 5.56 x 45 mm Metric designation. The U.S. Army eventually adopted this ammunition, consisting of jacketed lead, as the M193. Until then, the ammunition used to his guns was the 7.62 NATO, a powerful ammunition, both cumbersome and producing a drop too important to allow automatic fire from a comfortable gun. The Soviet bloc was then fitted with the AK-47 weapon less power but ultimately better suited to the real needs of combat. The new ammunition developed for the M16 allowed the soldiers to take over operations cartridges and receive a variety of roles with a range, precision and power as adequate as those of the AK-47. This ammunition quickly became the standard NATO 5.56 mm under the NATO designation from 1980.
